- Tetrabenazine is used to treat chorea associated with Huntington's disease.
✔️ Pharmacology
- Tetrabenazine works by depleting reserves of monoamine neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the basal ganglia. This helps control hyperkinetic movements associated with chorea.
- At dosages of 50 mg, Tetrabenazine may prolong the QTc interval.
- Tetrabenazine or its metabolites may bind to melanin-containing tissues in rats, such as the eyes and skin.
✔️ Dosage & Administration of Revocon 12.5mg Tablet
- The chronic daily dose of Tetrabenazine is determined individually for each patient.
- Tetrabenazine therapy should be titrated slowly over several weeks to identify a dose that reduces chorea and is tolerated.
- The maximum recommended daily dose is 100 mg, and the maximum recommended single dose is 37.5 mg.

- Tetrabenazine should not be taken with MAOI medication or within 14 days of stopping it.
- It may reduce the effects of levodopa and worsen parkinsonism.
- There is a higher chance of extrapyramidal adverse effects when Tetrabenazine is taken with amantadine, metoclopramide, or antipsychotics.
